THEORISTS ASSOCIATED WITH HORROR
Wheeler Winston Dixon- This man is an American filmmaker and scholar. He is an expert on film history, theory and criticism. Dixon's theory said that men and women in horror films are sites of activity, situations rather than characters. A site of activity usually refers to when a man or woman are part of the opening sequence. As this is the case, the audience don't really get the chance to get to know them. As we don't the characters, their personalities, their name and age; we are not able to get attached to them so we aren't very bothered about their deaths. The contemporary horror film must "horrify" the spectator.
Carol J. Clover was born July 31, 1940 and is an American professor of film studies, rhetoric language and Scandinavian mythology. The first and central aim of a horror cinema is to play to masochistic fears and desires in it's audiences. Sadismhas its place but masochism dominates. The victim will usually experience the pleasure of pain. One of her theory states that the only girl left at the end of the movie are the ones that are intelligent, boyish and are virgins.
Wes Craven was born on the 2nd of August 1939 who is an American director, writer and producer, actor known for his horror films especially slasher films. Wes Craven is quite a well known director and it is his belief that it is more effective if the setting is in a place that you are stereotypically likely to be safe in. For example: Your house or even a hospital.
