location choices
We chose a variety of locations which linked together through the theme of a graveyard and church. We chose to do this because it matches the stereotype of a supernatural horror film due to them both being spiritual. With it being spiritual and stereotypically known as 'haunted' it builds up suspense to the audience. The location plays a vital part by setting the mood and pace of a horror film. Hence it is so significant to make sure you get the correct location for the scene to fit the storyline.
Our first location was on an old wooden floor with scratch marks. We chose this location for the possessed girl to be dragged along on because it sets the scene to be old, dirty, broken and quite mysterious as you cannot see anything around, just the floor. when the girl gets dragged along the floor, it makes a scraping noise that no other type of floor would make other than a wooden floor; this was an added bonus to the effect.
Our second location which we filmed, set the scene of our OTS. The audience will quickly recognise the typical English church shown and will realise that the theme will be based around. We chose this location due to its spiritual relational with afterlife. we thought this would be an appropiate and safe area to film due to it being quiet.
The third location choice was was on the long steps in the chosen hill forest. We chose to film here so we could use a long shot angle; this would mean the characters full body's would be included and visible to the audience. Another reason we chose to film in the forest was because all the trees were dead, with no leaves leaving it to be quite isolated, dark and scary.
We chose to film in front of graves as our fourth location as it connected to the church which was showed at the very beginning of the OTS. it also links to our sub-genre supernatural because of the afterlife, spirits and graves.
Lastly, we chose to film on an open grave which causes dramatic tension towards the audience leaving them on edge what might happen to it with the characters stood on top.
