Our group participated in a class workshop on how to make a variety of fake blood which are edible and non edible. We came to a conclusion that some fake blood recipes were better than others due to the consistency or taste of them. Our group experimented by making gravy fake blood. For this we used:
3 teaspoons of gravy granules, water, and a few drops of red food colouring.
Overall, we came to a decision that the fake blood was too thick to use while throwing it on people, and didn't have a very nice taste. It looked realistic however wouldn't be used by our group in the future as edible blood due to their being other recipes on offer which we can use. As our blood was made from gravy, it was edible however didn't taste very nice so probably won't be picked in the future as an edible fake blood source.
Other groups in the workshop experimented with different ingredients, making a variety of different types of fake blood, these where:
- Cheap 'N' easy blood.
- Simple Fake blood
- Peanut butter blood (smooth and chunky).
- Tomato ketchup
- sauce blood.
- Chocolate blood.
- Realistic blood.
- Gravy blood.
Bringing all our fake blood recipes together as a class, we compared which ones would be better for different uses. while experimenting, we decided that the chocolate and peanut butter recipes was most successful to use for a character to keep in their mouth or swallow it as it tasted nice. These recipes benefit us as we are able to consider using them in our opening sequences. while testing the recipes out, we discovered that if you add too much food colouring to the chocolate blood it looses its taste and doesn't taste appetising.
The fake blood which we thought suited to be dribbled or spat is the one created from cocoa powder and cheap and easy fake blood. The consistency of the fake blood made from coca powder was very thin and liquidly which means its suitable for spitting or dribbling. We thought that the peanut butter blood was best to use for showing internal parts of the blood as it was lumpy. It wasn't good for dribbling or spitting as it was too thick of a consistency. Cheap and easy fake blood was made with washing up liquid and red food colouring. The benefit of using this type of blood is that it washes out of clothes however, the disadvantage is that if water comes in contact with it, it reacts and creates blood bubbles so you have to do one shot or keep making more cheap 'n' easy blood until you get the shot correct.
As a group, we thought that the workshop was very benefical and helped us learn different techniques and recipes to make fake blood. We had an example of every fake blood recipe given so when we come to plan our opening sequence we can watch back our video and reflect which one we want to use.
