question 5
how did you attract/address your audience?
To attract our target audience (fifteen to eighteen year olds), we used a variety of camera techniques and mise en scene. We researched what fifteen-eighteen year olds found engaging and appealing. In order to find out what different people enjoyed. We made a questionnaire for our research and looked at different websites such as BBFC, amazon and netflix. By doing this we were able to see what the rankings were from a larger audience. This made it clear to us that supernatural was one of the most popular horrors out of all the genres.
Therefore, so that we appealed to our target audience we incorporated a fair few different scenes and objects in them that the audience can be associated to and are focused on. The main features were the killers. They are very unusual characters for the stereotypical killer in a horror as they have more mystery about them. We were able to engage our audience throughout our ots. 'Sack Man' was wearing a hollister hoodie, 'Bunny Man' was wearing a nike hoodie and Hannah who played the part of a 'Possessed Girl' was wearing adidas superstars. This would certainly of intrigued the age group of our target audience which is 15-18 year olds. They would have noticed these brands and would've paid more attention to it than if we had not been wearing these clothes. The initial victim in our ots may be seen as eye candy for the females of our target audience which is another reason why it could be seen as engaging. It also helped the engagement factor because of us choosing the location to be at a graveyard. We used this as our location because it is traditionally a very creepy place so viewers would get scared; especially the target audience as they are younger and less experienced with horror movies.
