question 7
Look back at preliminary task - How have you improved since then?
Preliminary
There were many things that made our preliminary task seem unprofessional and boring to the viewer.
Not every scene used a tripod- such as in the beginning when Alex is walking, which used a handheld camera.
In the beginning, you can see the reflection of Hannah with the camera in the window. Terrible acting/ editing- you can hear Alex laughing in one shot. No filters, text or sounds were added during post production to add effect. |
Opening title sequence
Many more techniques were used to make our OTS look very professional.
Use of tripod in every shot.
Great location for filming. Good use of mise en scene such as positioning and props. Unique characters with recognisable features such as the girl's bloodstained white top or Rabbit Man's Nike jacket. Detailed editing with lots of cuts, filters and a soundtrack. Much better, believable acting. Frequent use of varied shots and angles. |
Summary
In summary, our preliminary was a very rushed failure. This was due to incompetence and an unorganised shooting schedule. With little time to create the video, hardly any editing was done during post production. This had a huge effect on our preliminary task as it seems very unprofessional and therefore made it unsuccessful. The acting wasn't believable and the script was terrible and stereotypical of cinema, not bringing anything new to the table and therefore not giving the audience any fresh material that they would be interested in. The camera that we used shot in HD but wasn't of high enough quality to produce the content we were aiming for.
Our OTS was a lot more successful due to having a lot more experience and an organised shooting schedule that were were committed to following religiously. This allowed us to divide our time and dedicate fractions of it to planning, filming and editing, making sure we had the appropriate amount of time to finish each section of the process. There was a greater use of mise en scene and camera techniques that allowed us to create a more shocking video. The editing process also had a lot more time dedicated to it as you can see. For example, text and filters allowed us to create a unique environment with a sinister feel. This as well as the setting (a graveyard) allowed us to create this surreal setting for the viewer.
